Why Prebiotics and Enzymes Matter

I wanted to address prebiotics and enzymes in follow up to my recent one titled, These Probiotics Changed My Life, and address prebiotics and enzymes and why they matter.

Prebiotics are food for your probiotics. It’s fibre which passes through your digestion system until it reaches the colon where it then ferments and feeds all of your gut bacteria helping it to flourish.

Prebiotics matter because if you do not have a diet that is rich in fibre (which many of us do not get the recommended 30 grams of fibre a day) then there is nothing for our gut bacteria to use as fuel. So, if you know you lack in fibre, take a prebiotic! If fibre rich foods such as beans, leafy greens, broccoli and cauliflower make you gassy, it is even more important that you look into prebiotics, enzymes and probiotics!

Enzymes are responsible for the breakdown of carbohydrates, fat, and protein. This is great because your probiotics will be able to work on helping you to digest these broken down macronutrients!

Digestive enzymes are normally produced by the body whereas prebiotics are not produced by the body but rather ingested.

Enzymes matter because they are naturally produced by the body, however, if you do not produce enough of these enzymes you may experience gastrointestinal issues.

Which should I take?

Taking prebiotics, probiotics and enzymes together is the best if you’re suffering from gastrointestinal issues. I highly recommend Digestion Plus because it contains an ideal blend of all three – a quick and easy solution.

Digestion Plus features inulin which is botanically derived from chicory root and supports a healthy gastrointestinal tract while creating an ideal environment for probiotics to colonize. It also contains probiotics and enzymes to support intestinal health• and is 100% vegan, gluten free and Certified Arbonne Clean which means the testing is beyond industry standard to ensure that each formula is cleaner for better results.

I do still also recommend the Probiotics from Botanica Research as well if you have issues with gluten sensitivity or iron absorption.

How do I use Digestion Plus?

Every day or two I add a pack of Digestion Plus to a glass of tap water and let it fizz. I generally drink it with a meal.

Also, if you’re feeling gassy drink some right away after your meal! It will help to reduce gas production.
